I had a few people mention to me that $32 for a ticket to "The Music Man" was a lot.
What else can you get for $32 dollars today?
Did you ever wonder how much it costs the Glens Falls Community Theatre to produce a big musical like,“The Music Man?”
I know that some of the costs have changed since the original budget was created, but to give you a snapshot of the total cost, here is what the original GFCT budget expenditures looked like:
$10,770 to rent the auditorium
$2,000 for costumes
$900 for credit card fees
$2,500 for directors fees
$80 for the general meeting mailing
$50 for lights
$100 for photos for the lobby
$25 for make up
$3,600 for musicians
$1,200 for the program
$150 for props
$1,000 rehearsal pianist
$6,200 for royalties & scripts
$300 for season subscription expense
$1,200 for sets
$500 for sound
$3,000 wood ticket fees
That’s a grand total of $36,270.00 in expenses.
Based on a $32 ticket, that equates to selling 1,113 tickets.
Did we meet our budget or not?
I won't know until I attend the next Board of Director meeting and hear the treasurer's report.
Remember, for the most part, that this entire production is pulled together by volunteers, many who are still working full-time jobs, have families and other responsibilities. Could that be why many community theatres have not survived?
Glens Falls Community Theatre is one of the oldest community theatres in the country and will celebrate its 80th year next year, thanks to the support of the community and its dedicated and hard-working volunteers.
However, the Glens Falls Community Theatre needs YOUR support because it doesn’t always make a profit on its shows and it only has a limited amount of resources.
Think of the 1,000+ people who experienced an energetic live theatre experience right here in Glens Falls
