WHAT TO PREPARE:

Prepare one 60–90 second song cut that:

    •    Lives comfortably in your voice and includes the target note(s) for the role you’re interested in.

    •    Reflects the style and tone of that character (see breakdown).

    •    Tells a story and shows clear acting choices.

Bring sheet music in your key for the accompanist. No a cappella auditions, please.

Music from the show is accepted for audition cuts


Character Breakdown & Vocal Requirements

OCEAN O’CONNELL ROSENBERG

Voice Type / Range: Belter Alto–Soprano (Bb3–Bb5)

Character: Driven, articulate, and exacting. Beneath her confidence is a girl desperate to prove she deserves to win.

Audition Focus: Must comfortably sustain Bb5 with control and clarity, and act through quick emotional turns between ambition and honesty.


CONSTANCE BLACKWOOD

Voice Type / Range: Alto/Mezzo (F3–D5)

Character: Kind-hearted, funny, and overlooked. She’s the emotional anchor of the group.

Audition Focus: Show warmth and storytelling through tone. Include both F3 and a clean D5 that demonstrates your ability to lift into mix without strain.

JANE DOE

Voice Type / Range: Classical Soprano (B3–E6)

Character: Mysterious, haunting, and ethereal. The music is her only language.

Audition Focus: Sustain a clear E5–E6 note with resonance and control. Choose legit or classical material that highlights line, phrasing, and focus.

NOEL GRUBER

Voice Type / Range: Tenor (G2–G4)

Character: A witty, dramatic dreamer with a flair for cabaret.

Audition Focus: Demonstrate lyrical phrasing and comic awareness. Include a confident G4 and stylistic ease in chanson or theatre-pop.

MISCHA BACHINSKI

Voice Type / Range: Baritone (A2–G4)

Character: Tough, proud, and emotionally complex. He uses bravado to mask deep sensitivity.

Audition Focus: Show strength and flexibility. Include a clear G4 and rhythmic precision; some rap-style phrasing or quick lyrics are encouraged.

RICKY POTTS

Voice Type / Range: Rock Baritone/Tenor (A2–A4)

Character: Shy and imaginative, then transformed into a larger-than-life frontman.

Audition Focus: Include a supported A4 that shows resonance and freedom. Pick material that builds dynamically to show range and stage presence.

THE AMAZING KARNAK

Voice Type / Range: Spoken Baritone presence

Character: A dry, omniscient narrator with timing and bite.

Audition Focus: Prepare a short spoken or patter-style piece that shows precision and authority.
